The Nature Museum Attendant is responsible for the overall care of the Prairie Grass Nature Museum facility, animals and exhibits under the supervisioni of the Recreation Supervisor and has appreciation of the natural environment. The Nature Museum Attendant is a part-time hourly position.


Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays (1-4pm) and every other Saturday mornings (9:30pm-12:30pm). Not to exceed 15 hours per week.


High School Diploma or GED.  Program experience, environmental education, or volunteer work desired.  Outgoing personality, creative and a self-starter. Enjoy working with children and engage all ages.  A valid driver’s license is required.

Duties & Responsibilities:

- Essential Functions: Welcome public with a friendly, courteous attitude, including but not limited to, answering phone calls and questions from all Park District patrons. Develop and maintain a positive relationship with the community. Care for museum items including plants, educational animals, and exhibits. Serve as Nature Museum Attendant during Public Open Hours. Assist supervisor with materials preparation and instruction of programs including field trips, scout programs, summer camps, school outreach, birthday parties and special events. Follow all safety guidelines related to the nature museum and the Park District. Recognizes and reports any unsafe conditions to their immediate supervisor. Secure facility equipment and supplies as needed. Supervises and enforces rules and regulations of the Park District.

- Marginal Functions: Assist in supervision and upkeep of the Aquatics Center and Nature Museum building. Assist in creating displays to promote the Nature Museum.

The School Age Lead Counselor will supervise and lead activities that are age appropriate for children 5-12 years old.

Candidate must have the ability to work with 5-12 year old children, hold current First Aid and CPR certification, and have two years of college with six credits of school age classes or one year experience working with school age children or a high school diploma with two years’ experience working with school aged children. Associates Degree preferred.

(We will be hiring 4 seasonal positions and 3 summer seasonal (college) positions.

The Seasonal Park Laborer is responsible for performing the duties outlined in this analysis. Seasonal Park Laborers work in groups of at least two on a regular basis. They are temporary employees. Work is performed at a moderate, constant pace, but may vary slightly depending on the demands of job required.

Qualifications: High school or G.E.D. equivalent, a valid State Driver’s License and safety toe boots are required.

Immediate Supervisor: Seasonal Parks Laborers are under the direction and supervision of the Parks Manager and full-time Parks Laborers.

Duties & Responsibilities:

- Essential Functions: Turf maintenance; mowing, watering and seeding. Operations of park district pick-up truck with trailers. Planting and trimming trees and shrubs. Marking lines on sports fields. Removing all garbage and refuse materials from parks and playgrounds. Perform all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of the District’s Safety Program.

- Marginal Functions: Assisting with horticulture tasks. General road and trail repair, asphalt patching and gravel road maintenance. Other duties as assigned.

Special Recreation Services of Northern Lake County is looking for people 18 and over interested in donating some time to a wonderful cause working with persons with disabilities. We are looking for general volunteers for a variety of programs and our Adult Day program the "T.O.D.A.Y. Club" (Together Opening Doors Around You). Volunteers should have a positive attitude, be outgoing and friendly and enjoy working with people of different backgrounds. We need assistance prepping, serving and cleaning up for the Senior Lunch Program on Tuesdays and/or Wednesdays from 11:00 - 1:00 p.m. A free lunch will be given to those who donate their time.
